Practical guide · files stay on your device

Remove supported PDF document metadata locally.

PDFs can contain document properties such as author information and XMP packets. PixelRinse rebuilds supported PDFs without those metadata structures while checking the supported document graph. It is not a document redaction service.

Can PixelRinse clean my file?

Real eligibility requires local inspection of the file and selected operation.

Key takeaways

  • Inspect first for free. File format and structure—not the extension alone—determine eligible cleaning.
  • Supported document-info metadata.
  • Encrypted, signed, active, attached or unsupported structures are rejected rather than weakened.

Example

A report exported from a word processor may list an author name and software in its document properties. Cleaning rebuilds the supported PDF without those fields; the author's name written in the body text stays.

How to do it safely

  1. Prepare local resources and choose an unencrypted PDF within the size limit. Initial inspection is not full cleaning validation.
  2. Review findings and proposed changes. Cleaning requires Individual Pro and performs deeper parser validation.
  3. Use the preservation workflow. Generic Fresh Export is unavailable for documents because it can damage document content.
  4. Review supported semantic and metadata checks, then inspect the result in a PDF reader before sharing.

What this workflow removes

  • Supported document-info metadata.
  • Supported XMP metadata in the rebuilt PDF.

What it does not promise

  • Encrypted, signed, active, attached or unsupported structures are rejected rather than weakened.
  • Names, text, images, annotations or other identifying content are not automatically redacted. Hidden content requires review or can cause rejection.
  • The 25 MiB file limit and browser memory limits apply. Do not infer that every valid PDF is supported.

Retained

  • Pages and visible content, including names typed into the document.
  • Supported navigation, accessibility and shared structural relationships.

Not checked

  • Whether visible text, images or context reveals private information.
  • Complete sanitization or redaction. Encrypted, signed and unsupported structures are refused.

Understand the evidence

Reparsed metadata and supported semantic inventories provide bounded evidence. They do not prove that every hidden or visible disclosure has been removed.

Processing, comparisons and verification receipts stay local. PixelRinse sends no product-usage events. Payment and legacy license upgrades are separate online actions that never include selected file contents, names, hashes or metadata.

Common questions

Will signed or encrypted PDFs work?
No. They are rejected rather than weakened.
Is this redaction?
No. Visible text, images and annotations are not removed.

More answers

What does PixelRinse do, and what does it promise?

PixelRinse provides private local tools for images, PDFs and metadata, plus supported comparisons and bounded document/media workflows.

Technical details and limits

Choose a working tool and inspect its exact support before processing. Metadata cleaning removes only the supported set; image editors intentionally change pixels. Each result states its checks and limits. No operation promises a file is free of every identifying trace.

Features and supported scopeFull answer

Does PixelRinse blur faces or redact visible text?

There is no dedicated face-blurring or document-redaction tool. Metadata cleaning does not remove visible content.

Technical details and limits

Faces, text, license plates and reflections remain in a metadata-cleaned copy. Pixel editors such as background removal, retouching and text watermarks deliberately change images, but do not guarantee anonymization or complete redaction. Use an appropriate redaction workflow and review the final saved file.

What does Verified mean?

Verified means the bounded checks listed in the receipt passed on the rebuilt output.

Technical details and limits

Examples are that it parses, that supported metadata fields are gone and that retained content is intact. It describes those checks only, not every possible hidden trace.
