Practical guide · files stay on your device

Compare the supported view, not everything a file contains.

Two files can look alike while differing in metadata, text structure or unsampled video frames. Start by choosing which supported view you want to compare, then read what that view cannot check.

Supported input

  • The supported image pair, PDF-page pair, DOCX text pair or short-video pair accepted by the comparison tool.
  • Both inputs must fit the displayed type, file-size, decode and device limits; HEIC visual comparison is not offered.

Key takeaways

  • Inspect first for free. File format and structure—not the extension alone—determine eligible cleaning.
  • A bounded comparison view of the supported pixels, page, text or five video samples. No file is cleaned by comparing it.
  • A matching sample is not proof that every frame or byte matches.

How to do it safely

  1. Open Compare files and choose two supported inputs of the intended comparison type.
  2. Read the displayed comparison scope and any refusal. Do not rename an unsupported file to make its extension match.
  3. For images, inspect the offered side-by-side, swipe or difference view; for a PDF, review the supported page rather than assuming the whole document was compared.
  4. For DOCX, read the text comparison as text, not a page-layout or revision-history comparison.
  5. For short videos, review all five synchronized sample times. Unsampled frames and audio remain Not checked.
  6. Keep the original files and interpret the result only within that stated scope.

What this workflow produces

  • A bounded comparison view of the supported pixels, page, text or five video samples. No file is cleaned by comparing it.

What it does not promise

  • A matching sample is not proof that every frame or byte matches.
  • HEIC visual comparison and audio comparison are not available.
  • Unsupported decode paths are reported rather than treated as equal.

Retained

  • Both original inputs remain unchanged.

Not checked

  • Whole-video or audio equality, every PDF page, hidden metadata or faithful Office layout.
  • Universal visual equivalence across browsers or physical devices.

Understand the evidence

Report the specific compared view and Not checked areas. “No difference in these samples” is not “identical files”.

Processing, comparisons and verification receipts stay local. PixelRinse sends no product-usage events. Payment and legacy license upgrades are separate online actions that never include selected file contents, names, hashes or metadata.

Common questions

More answers

Do matching video samples prove the videos and audio are identical?

No. Comparison checks only five synchronized video samples; unsampled frames and audio remain Not checked.

Technical details and limits

Missing or unsupported tracks are not reported as equal. A separate short-video conversion is a bounded realtime VP8/Opus WebM re-encode that can change frames, timing and quality; it is not a lossless copy. Matching samples do not prove whole-video, audio or byte equality.

What does Verified mean?

Verified means the bounded checks listed in the receipt passed on the rebuilt output.

Technical details and limits

Examples are that it parses, that supported metadata fields are gone and that retained content is intact. It describes those checks only, not every possible hidden trace.

How verification worksFull answer

What does Not checked mean?

Not checked marks an area PixelRinse did not or could not examine, and it is not a pass.

Technical details and limits

Treat those areas as unknown and review them yourself before sharing.
